چکیده

We present Chandra point-source catalogs for the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South (E-CDF-S) survey. The E-CDF-S consists of four contiguous 250 ks Chandra observations covering an approximately square region of total solid angle ≈0.3 deg2, which flank the existing ≈1 Ms Chandra Deep Field-South (CDF-S). The survey reaches sensitivity limits of ≈1.1 × 10−16 erg cm−2 s−1 and ≈6.7 × 10−16 erg cm−2 s−1 for the 0.5–2.0 keV and 2–8 keV bands, respectively. We detect 762 distinct X-ray point sources within the E-CDF-S exposure; 589 of these sources are new (i.e., not previously detected in the ≈1 Ms CDF-S). This brings the total number of X-ray point sources detected in the E-CDF-S region to 915 (via the E-CDF-S and ≈1 Ms CDF-S observations). Source positions are determined using matched-filter and centroiding techniques; the median positional uncertainty is ≈0.35. The basic X-ray and optical properties of these sources indicate a variety of source types, although absorbed active galactic nuclei (AGNs) seem to dominate. In addition to our main Chandra catalog, we constructed a supplementary source catalog containing 33 lower significance X-ray point-sources that have bright optical counterparts (R < 23). These sources generally have X-ray-to-optical Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics, 525 Davey Lab, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802, USA Institute of Astronomy, Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0HA, United Kingdom Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory, Columbia University, Pupin Labortories, 550 W. 120th St., Rm 1418, New York, NY 10027, USA INAF Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste, via G. Multi-colour (JHKS) imaging and photometry of the field of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar AXP 1E 1841−045 is analysed in the light of new, accurate coordinates from Chandra (Wachter et al, 2004). From excellent quality images, we find multiple sources in and around the position error circle. Of these, none can be confidently identified as the infrared counterpart. The limiting magnitudes reached we...

Archival Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field/Planetary Camera 2 observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud serendipitously reveal a possible counterpart to the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar CXOU J010043.1−721134. The candidate is faint, but its location and strange colours make it an interesting object. We estimate , that the probability of such a detection being due to a non-physical source is less tha...

We report the first results from deep X-ray observations of the SNR 1987A with the Chandra LETG. Temperatures inferred from line ratios range from ∼ 0.1−2 keV and increase with ionization potential. Expansion velocities inferred from X-ray line profiles range from ∼ 300 − 1700 km s −1 , much less than the velocities inferred from the radial expansion of the radio and X-ray images. We can accoun...

We have detected a transient X-ray source in the M31 bulge through a continuing monitoring campaign with the Chandra ACIS-I camera. The source was detected at R.A.=00:42:33.428± 0.11, Dec.=+41:17:03.37 ± 0.11 in only a single observation taken 2004-May-23. Fortuitous optical HST/ACS imaging of the transient location prior to the X-ray outburst, along with follow-up HST/ACS imaging during and af...
